SPECIAL STUDENT STATUS

(program description)

Admissions Requirements

Applicants for Special Student Status must hold a Bachelor's degree from a fully accredited institution (completed prior to matriculation), and provide the following documents to the DSPT Admissions Office:

  • A completed application form - Paper application forms are available by contacting the DSPT Admissions Office at , 510-883-2073, or 1-888-450-DSPT; or you may apply on-line.

  • An academic statement of purpose - This statement should articulate clearly and concisely your goals, area of theological interest you would like to pursue, and the reason the DSPT is an appropriate fit for your proposed program of study. The statement is used by the DSPT Admissions Committee to determine your preparation, as well as, your "fit" with the specific resources of the DSPT faculty. This statement should not be a personal biography; however, the statement of purpose is your self-presentation to the Committee, an important part of your application. Your statement of purpose should be approximately one-half page in length.

  • One letter of academic recommendation - Unlike character references, your academic recommendation should speak directly to your academic and intellectual potential. Choose a person who can address articulately your suitability to graduate level academic work. Recommendation Forms are available by contacting the DSPT Admissions Office, or may be dowloaded through the on-line application.

  • Official transcripts from all previous college work - Transcripts must show a Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited institution that indicate a background suitable for understanding the study of theology at the graduate level. Applications are accepted on a rolling admissions policy.

  • Application fee - $40.00 payable online by credit card or by mail with a check payable to the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology.
