New Student Orientation
The school year begins with an Orientation Week that attempts to familiarize new students with the academic and institutional policies of both the Dominican School and Graduate Theological Union. Orientation Week enables new students to meet other students, faculty and staff and to get important information to make their entrance into the school year less confusing. Our Registrar attends the student body meeting that week to inform students of registration procedures and to answer questions. Activities during Orientation Week include:
- Welcome Luncheon for new students, faculty and staff.
- Orientation session covering registration procedures, financial aid considerations, career planning updates, introduction to members of Student Government, discussion of DSPT facilities/amenities, and introduction to the Student Handbook.
- Tour of the main facilities of the Graduate Theological Union.
- Library Tours and Orientation (conducted by the GTU).
- International Student Orientation (conducted by the GTU).
- Financial Aid Interviews.
- Student Advising.
- General outing to familiarize new students with the greater Bay Area.
- Mass of the Holy Spirit
- Student Body meeting conducted by the elected officers of the Associated Students of the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology (ASDSPT).
Students are provided with a Student Handbook during Orientation Week which includes information on such policies as student rights, non-discrimination, confidentiality, sexual harassment, drug prevention programs, the appeals process, etc. It also explains academic policies regarding grades, incompletes, workloads, etc.
