St. Albert the Great Icon
The campus of the Dominican School of Philosophy & Theology was formally blest by Bishop Allen Vigneron on September 13, 2006. Fr. Brendan McAnerney, OP, DSPT Adjunct Professor, founder of DominICON
, and pastor of St. George Melkite -Greek Catholic Church
, Sacramento, CA, wrote an icon of St. Albert the Great for the school.
"The icon of St. Albert the Great shows the saint in a traditional posture of supplication before Christ God who blesses him from heaven. St. Albert offers to Christ his efforts as a theologian and natural philosopher in the form of his written 'Opera Omnia.' Identifying him as a Doctor of the Church, he simultaneously holds an image of St. Albert Chapel, Oakland, California that was erected immediately after his canonization in 1931.
The icon is painted on a traditional icon board employing and internal depression, a kovcheg, ark. Reminiscent of Noah's Ark, the icon, with its ark-harbored image, bears salvation. The gilding represents eternal, transfigured creation."
