  • Remarks on the Lineamenta for the Synod on the New Evangelization

    I found this document to be inspiring in many ways – although it is rather general. However, in the interest of time, what follows is a list of critiques, without being balanced by praise (which the document also deserves). I have five points to make. In number 11 it is said that personal encounter with Jesus Christ is the goal of the new evangelization. Indeed it is, but it must be understood that this personal encounter is not only individual but also corporate, communal, Ecclesial.

  • Visit to Rome to Work on Ratio Studiorum for the Order

    Beginning on All Saints' Day, Fr. Bryan Kromholtz, OP, was at Santa Sabina in Rome, the headquarters of the Order of Preachers, for a week-long meeting of the Order's nine-member Permanent Commission for the Promotion of Studies.

    Why are angels part of Christian revelation at all? While we cannot come to understand completely all of God’s purposes, we may be able to get some hints by a little reflection. In this case, I believe that a consideration of our belief about God will shed some light on this question.

  • Notes from the General Chapter of the Order of Preachers

    September 20, 2010As a member of the faculty of DSPT, it has been a great privilege to be able to participate in the General Chapter of the Order of Preachers as a delegate. I have met many exemplary friars from around the world, including those who are involved in research and teaching in philosophy, theology, and other areas -- all of whom are very gracious despite all the work we have to do.
