GTU Master of Arts in Theology (Common M.A.)
This program emphasizes the ecumenical dimensions of theological study, encouraging course work in the various traditions of the member schools of Graduate Theological Union (GTU) consortium. Applicants interested in the GTU Common M.A. apply through the GTU Admissions Office but choose to affiliate with one of the nine member schools.
The Common M.A. is a two-year degree program requiring a total of fourteen (14) 3-unit academic courses plus six (6) units of thesis work. The primary academic base for the M.A. is the student's school of affiliation, chosen according to study interests as well as denominational ties. Students who affiliate with the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology (DSPT) may specialize in art cultural studies, historical studies, Scripture, moral theology and ethics, preaching, systematic and philosophical theology, religion and the arts, or spirituality. See our Areas of Concentration and the GTU's M.A. Areas of Concentration to select a specific academic field as the focus of M.A. work and for more information about each of these areas.
