Great Reasons to Attend

DSPT - Mass on the Lawn Community LifeDSPT - Contaact Admissions

“I appreciate most of all how close-knit the community is at DSPT. Graduate school can be lonely, as there’s always a lot of reading and research to do on your own, but DSPT consistently brings in well-known speakers and offers a variety of social events that help form a real sense of community. Through DSPT, I’ve made friendships and connections that I will keep throughout my life.” -Elissa Cutter

“DSPT is an academic family, situated within a broader community of rich perspectives and resources – one of the most supportive environments I’ve found.” -Megan Furman

Student organized intellectual events that are also open to the public:
  • The Owl of Minerva - A speaker (typically a student) is invited to present a 20 minute argument or philosophical question that is followed by an informal discussion.
  • The Dumb Ox - follows the same format as the Owl of Minerva but for theological topics. The name comes from an insulting nickname given to the young St. Thomas Aquinas by his fellow students, who obviously misunderstood him!
  • Philosophy Movie Nights give students, alumni, and other members of the community the opportunity to watch and discuss a movie with a philosophical theme.
