    Members of the DSPT faculty present ideas through special lectures at DSPT and beyond and invite theologians from other universities to discuss important philosophical issues and how they relate to contemporary society.

  • Symposium: God, Reason and Reality

    Rather than being an exercise in superstition, talking about God is a genuine topic of the philosophia perennis. The existence and nature of God can be a matter of rational argument; his reality is accessible to reason. On the other hand, God’s reality is a uniquely difficult topic to engage. The very reference of the word “God” needs clarification before we can meaningfully inquire about his existence.

    February 15, 2011 - As part of our year-long celebration of the 400th anniversary of the founding of the University of Santo Tomás, DSPT welcomed Dr. Alma Santiago-Espartinez, the 2010-2011 Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence at the Dominican University of California.The talk aimed to establish a fecund dialogue between Karol Wojtyla and Emmanuel Levinas organized around the concept of subjectivity prior to or conditioned by responsibility and the ways in which their thinking on this question has congruities and diversions.

  • Soren Kierkegaard

    Jon Stewart, PhD "Kierkegaard and Hegel on Faith and Knowledge"

    October 21, 2009 - DSPT was honored to welcome Professor Jon Stewart, an Associate Research Professor from the Søren Kierkegaard Research Centre, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. His talk addressed one of Kierkegaard's main objections to Hegel's philosophy which is that it misunderstands the nature of religion by placing it on a par with various forms of scholarship and knowing.
