Richard L. Thomas Memorial Mass Saturday, Feburary 12, 1:00 pm at St. Mary Magdalen Parish

Richard Thomas, Jr, Pamela Thomas, and Richard L. ThomasRichard L. Thomas, husband of Pamela G. Thomas, passed away unexpectedly on January 27, 2011 while vacationing in Maui, Hawaii. Pam and Rick were married in 1971 and have lived in Berkeley, California for many years with their son, Richard. Richard currently lives in the Lake Tahoe area where he attends Sierra Nevada College and works as a snowboard instructor.

Rick is also survived by his sister, Anne Dennis, of Marshall, Texas and a brother, David Thomas, of Santa Fe, New Mexico. His mother and father, Lillian and Dick Thomas, preceded him in death.

Rick loved spending time with his family, fly-fishing, snow-skiing, hiking and traveling.

A retired executive with 40 years of experience in business management, project financing and development Rick began his career in 1974 with a small Berkeley consulting firm providing strategic and financial planning advice to natural resource and energy companies. From 1978 to 1983 they lived in Butte, Montana where he managed the Montana Power Company corporate planning, budgeting and treasury operations.

Rick, Pam and Richard moved back to Berkeley in 1983 where he worked for Crocker National Bank, Wells Fargo Capital Management, The Prudential Insurance Company of America and Calpine Corporation. His international experience included project financing with the World Bank/International Finance Corporation in Asia and management of an international joint venture for Peabody Holding Company in Turkey. Rick retired from Calpine 2010 after eleven years of directing the development and financing of a dozen natural gas and geothermal power projects in the western U.S.

His military service included the 101st Airborne Division and instructor at the Army Ranger School. He received a BS in Agricultural Economics from New Mexico State University and an MBA in Finance from the University of New Mexico.

A memorial Mass will be held this Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Berkeley (2005 Berryman Street, Berkeley, California 94709
(510) 526-4811). A reception will follow the Mass in the parish hall.
