Fr. Bryan Kromholtz, OP, Associate Professor of Theology and Regent of Studies of the Western Dominican Province in the US, recently hosted a meeting of the Regents of Studies of Canada & the USA. The regional meeting, mandated by the Dominican friars’ 2016 General Chapter, took place June 19-21, 2017, at St. Albert’s Priory in Oakland, and was attended by (in photo, left to right) Fr. Michel Gourgues (Regent of Studies, St. Dominic, Canada), Fr. John Langlois (Regent, St. Joseph, Eastern USA), Fr. Bryan, Fr. Michael Mascari (the Master of the Order’s Socius for the Intellectual Life), and Fr. Mark Wedig (Regent, St. Martin de Porres, Southern USA). Representatives from the Central USA Province and from the Vietnamese Vicariate in Canada were unable to attend. The gathering gave the Regents the opportunity to discuss the current state of their provincial Centers of Study and of studies in their Provinces, to share “best practices,” to review new legislation related to studies in the Order. It also afforded the Regents the chance to explore possibilities for inter-provincial collaboration, in preparation for a meeting in April of next year, which will include all the Priors Provincial, the Regents of Studies, and the Presidents from the Dominican Centers of Studies from the US & Canada region.
