DSPT Symposium - The Synod on the Family

Multi-disciplinary Perspectives from the American Context

The DSPT Symposium allows for the whole school to gather for a conversation on a topic relevant to the Church and society. The expertise of the Fellows, who represent varied disciplines, coupled with our faculty, students, staff, alumni, trustees, and specially invited guests, provide a rich and dynamic atmosphere to engage the proposed topic together.

Much controversy surrounded the 2015 Synod on the Family, as well as the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Bishops on the Family in 2014 – only the third such assembly ever held. This DSPT Symposium considered the 2015 Synod in relation to our American context, exploring the family in the USA from a variety of perspectives, and seeking to make sense of how to more deeply understand the Church’s teaching on the family in light of the fruits of the Synod with an aim to discern how to creatively and faithfully apply it in our culture today.
